General Motors' improvement of the SD40-2, the SD50, was a six-axle road switcher with a total power output of 3,600 HP. The impressive locomotive, with a length of 71 feet, was significantly longer than the SD40, SD45 and SD40-2 models. Despite improved performance characteristics and better fuel economy, unanticipated difficulties with the 16645F engine and other problems brought the reliability of GP50 and SD50 locomotives into question. History has proven that both the 16645F diesel engine and Super Series wheel creep control system were not as reliable or successful as the Dash2 model systems they replaced.

This SD50 for Train Simulator, developed by Digital Train Model, is a highly detailed recreation ofthis locomotive in Conrail and Conrail Quality liveries. Included in this pack are three standard scenarios for the Norfolk Southern route and Horseshoe Curve route.

SCENARIOS

Horseshoe Curve

1. [SD50 CR] Run through the Curve
Today you will be making a short run over the Horseshoe Curve. Starting in Altoona, make your way over the steep gradients to the Horseshoe Curve. An excellent opportunity to revive the era of Conrail. Enjoy the ride!

Norfolk Southern Coal District

1. [SD50 CR] Empty Coal Train on a Friday
It's the year 2010 and some of the ex-Conrail locomotives are still working for Norfolk Southern, for example the SD50s. Your job is to drive an empty hopper train from West Brownsville to Bailey Mine.

2. [SD50 CR] Load for the Coal Industry
You have to load the empty hoppers of your train here in Bailey Mine, then you must couple to the other part of the train already waiting at 'Bailey Mine Inbound'. You should then drive the train to 'Farm Main 2 South'.
