Welcome to our next Dev Update of the Cumbrian Coast: Carlisle-Whitehaven. Here we're pleased to share further screenshots of the upcoming route, with extra emphasis on the highly anticipated Class 108, our first fully in-house DMU for Train Sim World, and one that we're very excited for people to experience in TRAIN SIM WORLD 7!
We're currently busy working on making a nice raspy sound set, recorded at Peak Rail and the Llangollen Railway. We look forward to sharing that with you all soon! The Class 108 will feature a raft of different variants for use across our library of routes, the Cumbrian Coast version of course will feature the famous window bars given to these units for work through Bransty Tunnel at Whitehaven, with it's notoriously tight clearances, whilst versions both with and without the former headcode box will feature.
As with previous routes, we're using the 1986/7 Working Timetable, featuring several fun and challenging services, including the former Sellafield Workers trains which saw a service in each direction between Barrow and Carlisle operate with 3 Class 108's coupled together. Beyond this a fully featured freight timetable marries up nicely with the passenger, railtour and shunting services across the route, a far cry from the sterile nature of the Cumbrian Coast in 2026!
The route itself is progressing very nicely and we're sure you're going to enjoy the perfect mix of scenery as you explore the 40 miles between Carlisle Kingmoor and Whitehaven Bransty station, passing through the industrial steel making town of Workington along the way.
