With a total production run of 819, the SS1 was developed in China with the assistance of the Soviet Union in the early 1960s as an AC (Alternating Current) electric-powered locomotive for passenger services, but as time progressed its passenger services were passed to newer, faster trains and the SS1 started to haul freight instead. That later era is reflected in this pack, which includes the C64 and P62 freight wagons.

Single-headed the SS1 can haul up to 2,500 tons but double-headed it can haul up to 4,000 tons, making the SS1 a real heavy hauler!
