Having arrived late into Newark Castle on the previous service, there isn’t much time before 2A38 is due to depart. However, you first need to detrain all the passengers to perform the ECS across to the opposite platform. Once the passengers have left the train and the doors are closed you may proceed.

Take charge and forge your way northbound towards Sheffield with 1E63. Motive power on this calm summer evening is a Class 43 HST set. You will call at Chesterfield and Sheffield en route.

Starting from a cold start you will prepare 156410 and 158813 at Etches Park before running ECS via Chaddesden Curve to Derby. You will then form 2A11 to Nottingham, calling at all stations en route. Please make sure your points are set before departing at 05:55.

The wintry weather is in full force at the moment across the Pennines. You join 1B71 at Sheffield for the run over to Manchester Piccadilly. The weather is currently cold but clear, although that may change at any moment, so be prepared to drive to the conditions. You will call at Stockport and Manchester Piccadilly.

The sun is rising and the morning peak is once again upon us. You will oversee taking the ECS for 2S31 from Stockport to Chinley. This unit has just been split from 5S03, which will depart ahead of you to run ECS to New Mills Central. Once you arrive at Chinley you will work a stopping service to Manchester Piccadilly.

You join 1B81 here at Lincoln on a calm summer morning ahead of the 07:30 departure for London Kings Cross. Start by preparing the cab and boarding passengers. You will call at Newark Northgate only on this run, where a colleague who signs the East Coast Main Line route will meet you to take over.

Today you are on an early turn. Begin by cold starting your Class 222 before proceeding as an ECS to Sheffield. En route you will also pick up staff and supplies for the day.

You join 1C10 on a murky morning at Sheffield. You will be running the 05:29 service as far as Leicester, calling at Chesterfield, Derby and Leicester only. Get set up and allow the final passengers to board.

You join the cab of 170521 after an end change at Derby Station. You will be running the final section of 1M99 to Nottingham, calling at Long Eaton, Beeston and Nottingham.
